Fontographer… It’s back

I received an interesting email from FontLab today… announcing the return of Fontographer. A new version (5) of Fontographer has just been released for Mac and PC. So Fontographer has come back to life after more than a decade of being in hybernation.

I used Fontographer in the very early days, and if I dig into my ancient software archive I will probably still find an original installer disk floating around somewhere, if I remember correctly it was bundled with on of the MacroMedia Studio software bundles?

If you’re an old Fontographer fan, hop onto the new Product Page to find out more…

    Thanks for that tip! I just downloaded the Mac version Demo, and plan to see how it stands up. I used version 4.1.4 on my OS 9 mac up until 2001, and have been waiting for this version since then. Hope it works well, as I want to convert some Type1 fonts to OpenType.

    yeah I had a version on Mac OS9 as well … dare I say in a past life? :-) was a little surprised to see the app resurfaced to say the least.

    What’s your verdict on the app thusfar?

    Fontographer was included in Macromedia Graphics Studio 7. The studio also included the extinct XRes.

    Thanks you for adding that background fact.
    I must admit I had forgotten about XRes :-)

    Now if only some cool company would bring FreeHand back *cough* *cough*

    @Tim :-)

    Give Illustrator a chance, it is a fantastic application. CS5 adds major new cool stuff and even automatically builds Clipping Masks for you know… by enabling the Paint Inside feature … THAT allows you to place images inside paths easier and faster then before :-)
