With the holiday season and the year comin’ to an end (just over 4hrs to go for me…), I hope you’ve all had a great festive winter or summer season, whereever in the world you might be and whatever your cultural background is. It seems that whilst one part of the world is struggling with packets of snow, some of us in the Southern Hemisphere (myself included), are thankful for Willis Haviland Carrier‘s kind invention of electric air-conditioning to keep us cool during the hot summer months.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say Thank You for visiting my blog and taking an interest in reading some of my posts and brainchildren and adding some comments…  and wish you all a very happy New Year.

]]> As some of you might have noticed over the past days, I’ve been doing some house-cleaning in a virtual sense over this wonderful Easter break.  This hasn’t been without a reason. Easter for me this year marks the start of something new and fresh.

The creative, print and publishing industries are bubbling with excitement. A whirlwind is blowing across the publishing industry as we speak, and publishers are deciding which electronic reading devices to support, what formats to build and how to convert their current print-publications to electronic format.

The iPad has just gone on sale in the US and will be coming to Australia in late April. First-hand experience reviews are starting to pop-up everywhere.

We are only days away from witnessing Adobe Systems launch of an entire new suite of products with the Creative Suite 5 launch. Bigger and better than ever before… continuing the publishing revolution.

It seems the world has gone a little mad with excitement… and I’m riding along with it.  As of April 6, 2010, I will be working as a freelance trainer, public speaker and publishing consultant. I hope to bring knowledge, experience and excitement about creative and publishing technologies to your organisation… Be it in the role of Adobe Certified Instructor, bringing your staff up to speed with the latest tools and tricks in Adobe apps, a speaker at one of your events, or as an independent publishing consultant helping you manage & map the path of your publishing future.

]]> Ok, so my site was down for almost 3 days, so was my email… all as a result of my domain host doing a Server Upgrade…  Apparently they started the rollover in September/October, and as a result copied files across at the time?  They forgot all about it when they did the final rollover and pointed DNS to new location, which had old files in it…  They incremented the DNS and overnight it reset itself back to Sept’07 several times? Anyway I’m happy to say the site survived the night and has not been reset. Touch wood that all will stay well :)

As to all bad things coming in threes….

(1) last week my brand new dark-grey colourbond fence got graffitied with white spray paint… and I spent a day registering/reporting graffiti damage in the neighbourhood and cleaning the fence.
(2) this week my site went down and I spent numerous hours sorting things out…
(3) let’s hope that our Energy supplier killing the power supply yesterday counts as bad thing number three. (never mind the fact that I was about half way through a 400Mb upload and just got through to phone support for site-issues after being on hold for 40+ minutes, when the power got cut!)

Having said all of that… the coming week should be absolutely ACE!!

]]> My domain host updated the server that hosts my domain this afternoon. And in doing so copied an old site (Sept’07) across to the new server, which some of you might have seen up and running for a couple of hours.

Following that, the services needed to be re-instated, which meant the site was entirely down for about 3-4hrs. My apologies on behalf of my domain host for any inconvenience this might have caused.

All services seem to have been restored now.

]]> There’s been a bit of a draught in my posts over the past few months and I know from emails I’ve received you’re all missing my posts. Many different reasons for this basically, most of which come down to simply not having had the physical time to work on my web-site. Not just because of a busy work schedule, but also as I’ve been busy organizing everything for the finalization of a house I’ve been building and the resulting move to a different location. In turn I’ve acquired some non-IT skills :) painted my house, put up washing lines outside, (re)assembled furniture after the move etc .I’m happy to say, I love my new home and the new Shire I’ve chosen to live in.

I’ve made quite a few promises for posting of tips during recent Adobe eSeminars and am putting them together slowly over the coming weeks. But for now here is the first one in a series of tips that is to follow over the next few weeks :)
