By Cari Jansen | January 2, 2008

I’ve just uploaded the scripts again.  An oversight on my part - I forgot to upload the scripts to the server -.  Which means they’ve not been available. Thank you Eric for dropping me an email to let me know.

I hope all’s working well now.

Scaling Effects

By Cari Jansen | January 1, 2008

Digitip 062 - Adobe InDesign CS3

Last week, the InDesign Talk list had an interesting discussion about scaling effects in InDesign.  As far as I can tell from some tests I’ve just run, it is only the Drop Shadow Effect that doesn’t scale. All other effects seem to scale appropriately.

Digitip 061 - Adobe InDesign CS3

For those of us setting Ads in InDesign the introduction of the feature that can set Stroke Alignment on border objects to “Align Stroke to Inside” in InDesign CS was welcomed with open arms. Gone were the days of borders vanishing into the Pasteboard gray…

Site Revision

By Cari Jansen | December 30, 2007

It’s almost becoming an annual event… a site revision.

This one is a major upgrade. Now working with Wordpress and totally database driven content.  Rather than building everything from scratch I’ve done what most Wordpressers do… used an existing Wordpress theme and made my own amendments to it.

By Cari Jansen | December 7, 2007

It’s quite exciting to see that more and more Microsoft Publisher users are making the jump across to Adobe InDesign. If you are a Microsoft Publisher user and have lots of old Publisher files and would like to convert to InDesign without having to recreate your files in InDesign, Markzware’s PUB2ID plug-in for InDesign can come to your rescue.

Adobe Swatch Exchange

By Cari Jansen | December 2, 2007

Digitip 060 - Adobe InDesign CS3

The Adobe Swatch Exchange file (.ase), enables sharing of swatches between InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Generally people will use these .ase as means of loading entire colour lists in the various applications. However, it is possible to make colour lists saved as .ase files permanently accessible as colour libraries, without the need to load the entire content of the library in your InDesign swatches panel. Let me take you through the “how-to”-steps….

I’m back

By Cari Jansen | December 2, 2007

There’s been a bit of a draught in my posts over the past few months and I know from emails I’ve received you’re all missing my posts. Many different reasons for this basically, most of which come down to simply not having had the physical time to work on my web-site. Not just because of a busy work schedule, but also as I’ve been busy organizing everything for the finalization of a house I’ve been building and the resulting move to a different location.

By Cari Jansen | September 3, 2007

Typefi Systems on Friday announced the release of a Free Plug-in for Adobe InDesign called Typefi AutoFit. The Plug-in is now available for download and works with CS3 and CS2. This snazzy plug-in enables you to set Text Frame Growth behaviour as more text is inserted in Text Frames as well as relationships between Frames, Lines etc. These relationships in turn cause all related objects to grow accordingly. It’s a cool little plug-in definitely worth installing with your version of InDesign.

Round Corners and Text Inset

By Cari Jansen | September 1, 2007

Digitip 059 - Adobe InDesign CS3/ Typefi AutoFit

At the InDesign Conference, a gentleman in the audience asked “when I set a text inset for Text Frame, and apply different insets for Top, Left, Right and Bottom, I loose this functionality when I apply a Corner Option to the frame, it turns to Inset”.” Is there anyway around this?” The answer is “Yes, but you’d need to apply a little trick AND use the AutoFit plug-in for InDesign that Typefi Systems has just released”.
